Best affordable mini projectors that someone actually tested

Updated by Tomas Lindgren. Four tested picks and what each price tier buys.

The short answer

Under $200, the Aurzen D1R Air gives certified 300 ANSI lumens, native 1080p and Roku. Around $100, The Smart Home Hookup's winner, the Fudoni GC888A. Around $60, the HAPPRUN H1. Add a streaming stick to the last two and skip any listing that quotes thousands of lumens.

What people worry about here

Is the brightness on the listing real?

Only if it names a standard. ANSI or ISO 21118 lumens can be compared; a bare 'lumens' or 'LED lumens' figure can't, and budget listings often print both. Believe the smaller number, then look for a certificate or a reviewer's measurement.

650 ANSI and 20,000 lumensone $60 listing in our Oct 25, 2026 data prints both in the same title

Can I trust Amazon best sellers and star ratings?

Not for projectors. Tom's Guide lab-tested four best-selling projectors under $50 and would buy only one of them again. Star ratings mostly reflect whether a cheap box arrived working, not how bright it is.

Will Netflix and YouTube work without a stick?

On projectors with licensed Google TV, Roku or Samsung Tizen, yes. On plain Android boxes and mirroring-only models, often not: copy protection blocks mirrored Netflix, and some projectors can't install the official app at all.

Add-ons that matter here

A streaming stick

Roku Streaming Stick Plus (4K, HDR10+)

Budget projectors without licensed apps become easy with a stick. It also fixes the Netflix problem on Android and mirroring-only models.

What to look for: Check that the stick and your projector's power or USB ports don't block each other.

Blackout curtains

Darkening the room does more for a 300-lumen projector than any setting. Our brightness calculator shows how much.

What to look for: Full-length panels and a rod that wraps around the sides to stop light leaking in.

Questions people ask

What is the best mini projector under $100?

In our October data, the HAPPRUN H1 at about $60. The Fudoni GC888A is The Smart Home Hookup's under-$100 winner but listed slightly above $100 when we collected prices.

What does projector price buy you at each tier?

Around $60 to $110: honest native 1080p with no apps (HAPPRUN H1, Fudoni GC888A). $150 to $250: certified brightness plus licensed Roku or Google TV (D1R Air, BOOM Air). $350 to $500: laser light and battery (BenQ GV50, MoGo 4 Laser). Projector price climbs fastest for brightness and 4K.

Do I need a streaming stick with a cheap projector?

With most projectors under $120, yes. Their built-in Android apps are often unlicensed, and the H1 has none at all. A stick also gives you a better remote.

What warranty should I expect on a budget projector?

Listings in our data range from one to three years. Keep the box for the return window; budget projectors that fail tend to do it early.

Why are budget projector specs so inflated?

Because bigger numbers sell and nobody checks. The Smart Home Hookup has tested cheap projectors for five years and still finds most listings misleading.

Are cheap Amazon mini projectors worth it?

A few are. Tom's Guide lab-tested four best sellers under $50 and would buy only one again, and The Smart Home Hookup's 2025 test of 25 sub-$100 models found most listings exaggerate. The ones that held up, like the HAPPRUN H1 and Fudoni GC888A, are dim but honest. Budget for a dark room and a streaming stick.

Which mini projector native 1080p models are worth it?

In our ten: the MoGo 4 Laser, Elfin Flip Laser, D1R Air, BOOM Air, BenQ GV50, Nebula Mars 3, Fudoni GC888A and HAPPRUN H1. When shopping for any mini projector native 1080p listing, look for the word native next to 1920×1080, not just 'Full HD supported'.
