Best mini projector for presentations and small meetings

Updated by Tomas Lindgren. Picks from our main list, re-sorted for slides and spreadsheets.

The short answer

Take the XGIMI Elfin Flip Laser: 1,600 ISO lumens in a backpack-sized body, native 1080p for readable spreadsheets, and Google TV for casting. On a budget, the Fudoni GC888A takes HDMI and focuses itself. For brightly lit conference rooms, a full-size data projector still wins.

What people worry about here

Will a mini projector work for presentations?

For a small, dim room, yes. You need an HDMI input (or a USB-C to HDMI adapter for a laptop), automatic keystone, and as many lumens as you can carry, because meeting rooms are rarely dark. Text is sharp at 1080p and acceptable at 720p for small groups.

1,600 ISOElfin Flip Laser brightness rating (XGIMI), the highest in a bag-sized body in our data

Can I watch with a lamp on, or outside before it's fully dark?

Only with a bright projector or a small picture. A dark room needs about 16 foot-lamberts on the screen, which is roughly 475 ANSI lumens for a 100-inch picture. A lamp nearly doubles what you need. Outdoors, wait until 30 minutes after sunset.

Work it out for your setup

How bright does it need to be?

16 fL is the SMPTE reference level for cinema screens. Rated lumens are measured in the brightest mode, hence the headroom.

Add-ons that matter here

An adjustable projector stand

PUTORSEN universal stand with 1/4-inch screw

Getting the lens level with the middle of the screen avoids heavy keystone correction, which costs sharpness.

What to look for: A 1/4-inch screw that matches the projector's tripod socket and a tilt lock.

Questions people ask

Can a mini projector work as a data projector?

For small meetings in a dim room, yes. A traditional data projector puts out 3,000 to 4,000 lumens for lit rooms; the BenQ MW560C in our data is one. Minis top out around 1,600 ISO lumens.

Is 720p enough for slides and spreadsheets?

For slides with large text, yes. For spreadsheets, choose 1080p, and keep the picture small enough that the back row can read 12-point text.

Can I present wirelessly from a laptop?

On Google TV models you can cast a Chrome tab; on Roku models, Windows can use Miracast where supported. For reliability in a meeting, bring an HDMI cable or a USB-C to HDMI adapter.

How bright for a meeting room with the lights on?

Far more than any mini delivers: a lit room with a 70-inch picture wants well over 1,000 lumens. Dim the lights near the screen and use the brightest projector you can carry.

Will my laptop's USB-C port send video to a projector?

Most recent laptops support video over USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode). A USB-C to HDMI adapter with power pass-through keeps the laptop charged.

Can I set it up on a table off to the side?

Yes, with automatic keystone, but text gets softer the more it corrects. Center it on the screen whenever you can.
