Updated by Tomas Lindgren. Three must-haves, six small fixes and three bigger add-ons.
⚡The short answer
Start with three: a 100-inch screen, a streaming stick for projectors without licensed apps, and a 65 W USB-C power bank for USB-C models. After that, a stand, an iPhone HDMI adapter and blackout curtains solve the most common complaints people have in their first week.
🎯What people worry about here
Will Netflix and YouTube work without a stick?
On projectors with licensed Google TV, Roku or Samsung Tizen, yes. On plain Android boxes and mirroring-only models, often not: copy protection blocks mirrored Netflix, and some projectors can't install the official app at all.

Does it have a battery, or can I run it from a power bank?
Battery models usually last about 2.5 hours, which covers one movie. USB-C models have no battery but run from a power bank, as long as it delivers 65 W or more over USB-C PD. Phone-sized banks won't start them.

For a bedroom, usually yes: most minis carry 5 to 12 W. For a backyard, no. The Mars 3's 40 W speakers are the exception in our data. Otherwise add a Bluetooth speaker placed near the audience.

The screen, the stick and the power bank fix the three most common complaints.
A 100-inch screen with a stand

A real screen is the cheapest brightness upgrade there is: a white matte surface reflects more evenly than a painted wall, and the stand lets you set up anywhere.
What to look for: Look for a wrinkle-resistant fabric and a 16:9 frame that matches your projector.
USB-C projectors such as the D1R Air and BOOM Air won't start on a phone-sized bank. At 20,000 mAh, our calculator puts runtime around 1.4 hours for a 45 W projector.
What to look for: 65 W USB-C PD output, plus a 5A E-marker cable for USB-C projectors.
Do I need a screen, or is 'screen projector' something else?
People searching 'screen projector' usually want a projector and a screen together. A white wall works; a matte white screen looks more even and a bit brighter. Gray walls cost brightness.
What does screen gain mean?
Gain is how much light a screen reflects compared with a standard white board. 1.0 is neutral; higher gain looks brighter head-on but dimmer from the sides.
Will any power bank run a USB-C projector?
No. It needs USB-C PD output of 65 W or more, and the cable must be rated for 5 A (E-marker). Check both before you buy.
Will a tripod fit my projector?
Most minis have a standard 1/4-inch tripod socket underneath. Check the bottom of yours, and pick a stand that holds its weight with the head tilted.
How do I clean a projector lens?
Blow off dust first, then wipe gently with a microfiber cloth and alcohol-free lens fluid. Never spray the lens directly.
Are blackout curtains worth it for a projector?
Yes. Cutting ambient light helps a 300-lumen projector more than doubling its brightness would in a lit room.
